What is a private insurance check-up?

A private insurance check-up is a preventive examination billed as a private medical service under the German medical fee schedule (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte, GOÄ), which is why private health insurers reimburse it fully or in part. The YEARS Core check-up covers 25 functional tests and 87 laboratory biomarkers in a single day in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Individual diagnostic services such as blood count, ECG, echocardiography, spiroergometry, vascular ultrasound and lung function are reimbursed at 70 to 100 percent under GOÄ by most private policies. You receive a complete, GOÄ-compliant invoice to submit to your insurer. Programme price: from €1,900 (Core).

How reimbursement works at YEARS

Three steps between booking and reimbursement — no bureaucratic surprises.

Step 01

Consultation

In a free initial consultation we work out together what your policy typically reimburses. We do not recommend submitting a request in advance — in practice it often reduces the reimbursement.

Step 02

Diagnostic day in Berlin

Six hours at our clinic in Berlin-Charlottenburg. All examinations under one roof. Physician-led from medical history through to findings.

Step 03

GOÄ invoice & reimbursement

You receive a complete, GOÄ-compliant invoice with all item numbers, multipliers and justifications. You submit it to your insurer. Reimbursement goes directly from the insurer to you.

Important: the exact level of reimbursement depends on your policy (deductible, preventive-care allowances, Beihilfe rate). Full coverage is not guaranteed. We do not recommend submitting a request in advance — in practice it often reduces the reimbursement. We clarify the details transparently in the consultation.

What do you get with YEARS Core?

25 functional tests and 87 biomarkers — the GOÄ-relevant examinations that private policies typically reimburse.

87 laboratory biomarkers

Full blood count, ApoB, Lp(a), hsCRP, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, hormones, thyroid, vitamins, inflammatory markers, liver and kidney function.

ECG + echocardiography

12-lead ECG, transthoracic echocardiography. Reveals arrhythmias, valve changes and structural abnormalities.

Vascular ultrasound with Doppler

Carotid Doppler and peripheral arterial sonography. Early atherosclerosis becomes visible long before symptoms appear.

Lung function

Body plethysmography and optional blood gas analysis. Measures vital capacity, resistance, lung volumes and gas exchange.

Spiroergometry (VO2max)

Maximum oxygen uptake under exertion — one of the most precise predictors of cardiovascular health and life expectancy.

Bone density & body composition

DXA bone density measurement, 3D body scan, bioimpedance for precise body composition — no generic estimates.

Cognition & mental health

Neurocognitive test battery, validated questionnaires on stress, sleep and mood.

In-depth physician consultation

60 minutes in person with a specialist physician. Interpretation of findings, an individual prevention plan, written documentation.

GOÄ-compliant invoice

A complete, submittable invoice with all item numbers, multipliers and justifications. Ready to submit to your insurer — under most private policies Core is largely reimbursed.

Why Core offers the best reimbursement ratio

Full GOÄ stack

Each of the 25 functional tests in Core has an established GOÄ item number. That makes Core the most fully reimbursable programme in the YEARS portfolio.

Imaging at the right scale

Echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, lung function — all reimbursable. Whole-body MRI (in Evolve) is less often reimbursed in full, because many policies only cover imaging with a clinical indication.

Greatest value per euro

At a programme price of €1,900 and typical private reimbursement for GOÄ diagnostics, the effective out-of-pocket share is often in the low hundreds.

Diagnostics & exclusion diagnostics

Core is private diagnostic and exclusion diagnostics — billed in line with GOÄ. It is precisely this constellation that leads most private policies to reimburse the majority of the cost.

Personal findings consultation

Every finding is discussed in person with a specialist physician. No PDF summary, no coach, no algorithm — genuine medical interpretation.

Rated 4.9 / 5 (71+ reviews)

Verified patient feedback, much of it from privately insured patients commenting on their out-of-pocket share after reimbursement.

Common questions about the private insurance check-up

That depends on your policy. YEARS bills as a private practice under the German medical fee schedule (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte, GOÄ) — the same schedule every German private policy uses to remunerate services. Individual diagnostic services such as blood count, ECG, echocardiography, spiroergometry and ultrasound are reimbursed at 70 to 100 percent under most policies. Policies with a deductible offset their share accordingly. A tip: before your appointment, ask your insurer about reimbursement of “preventive medical services under GOÄ” — we will provide the GOÄ item numbers in advance on request.

The German medical fee schedule (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte, GOÄ) is the legal basis on which physicians bill private medical services. Each examination has a unique item number with a defined point value and multiplier (1.0× to 3.5× depending on complexity). A GOÄ-compliant invoice lists every single service with its item number, multiplier and justification — precisely what your private insurer needs for reimbursement. After your check-up, YEARS issues a complete GOÄ invoice automatically.

Core includes 25 functional tests and 87 laboratory biomarkers — exactly the diagnostics anchored in the GOÄ as billable medical services. Imaging such as ultrasound, ECG, spiroergometry and lung function have clear GOÄ item numbers and are reimbursable under most private policies. The whole-body MRI (included in Evolve) is less often reimbursed in full, because many policies only cover imaging with a clinical indication. With Core you therefore get the most comprehensive check-up at the best ratio of reimbursement to out-of-pocket cost.

Yes. Those entitled to Beihilfe, the German civil-servant benefit scheme (federal, state and municipal), are reimbursed the eligible share of their treatment costs — depending on their personal Beihilfe rate and supplementary private policy. Most Beihilfe schemes cover diagnostic services under GOÄ in the same way private insurance does. Some Beihilfe offices require written approval in advance for extensive preventive examinations — talk to us and we will help with the request.

Yes, as a self-payer. German statutory health insurance does not cover private medical services such as our check-up. You can, however, claim the costs as an extraordinary burden on your tax return if your expenses exceed the reasonable-burden threshold. Many of our patients see the check-up as a sensible investment in their own health — precisely because statutory insurance has historically under-served prevention.

We deliberately do not recommend submitting a request to your insurer in advance — in practice it often reduces the reimbursement. YEARS Core is private diagnostic and exclusion diagnostics, billed in line with GOÄ. Under most private policies the majority of the cost is reimbursed, with a typical out-of-pocket share between €200 and €700. Which item numbers are billed and what you will get back, we clarify transparently in the consultation — more reliably than any written pre-enquiry.

A typical private preventive check at a family doctor covers around 10 to 20 laboratory values, an ECG and a consultation — useful, but nowhere near sufficient for modern prevention. YEARS Core measures 87 biomarkers including modern cardiovascular markers (ApoB, Lp(a), hsCRP), metabolic indicators (HOMA-IR, HbA1c), hormones, thyroid, vascular ultrasound with Doppler, spiroergometry (VO2max), body plethysmography and a cognitive test battery. A family-doctor check does not replace a longevity check-up — and vice versa.
